With the goal of integrating academic ophthalmology with clinical ophthalmic services in Hong Kong, the CUHK Eye Centre (CUHKEC, formerly known as the University Eye Centre) was set up in 1995 at both Hong Kong Eye Hospital (HKEH) and Prince of Wales Hospital (PWH). Established under the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences of The Chinese University of Hong Kong, CUHKEC provides subspecialty-based clinical ophthalmic services through the CUHK-HKEH Private Eye Clinic. The team of university professors and ophthalmologists is supported by experienced ophthalmic nurses, optometrists, ophthalmic technicians and staff. The clinic is equipped with state-of-the-art ophthalmic equipment to provide advanced and precise ophthalmic diagnostic investigations, monitoring and treatments.
In addition to the eye clinic, the CUHK Eye Centre also consists of the CUHK Refractive Surgery Centre, the Pao So Kuk Macular Diseases Treatment and Research Centre, and the Clinical Drug Trial Centre.
The CUHK Refractive Surgery Centre was awarded the Reader’s Digest Trusted Brand Award in the Eye Surgery Centre (LASIK) category for four consecutive years since the launch of the category in 2011. In the past two years, the CUHK Eye Centre was awarded the Platinum Award in recognition of the Centre’s outstanding quality and service. This year, the CUHK Eye Centre is again awarded the Reader Digest’s Trusted Brand Award in the Eye Surgery Centre category, marking its seventh year as recipient of the Trusted Brand Award. The award winner was voted by the public, which provides testimony to the Centre’s quality and service excellence.
The Pao So Kuk Macular Diseases Treatment and Research Centre was officially opened in April 2016. The Centre aims to provide state-of-the-art detection and treatments for macular diseases, and to significantly strengthen our clinical and laboratory research on macular diseases. It will also be a vital part of our training and education of doctors and the public on macular diseases.
The Clinical Drug Trial Centre is officially accredited by the China Food and Drug Administration (CFDA) for clinical drug trials and ophthalmic research. To date, this is the only accredited Clinical Drug Trial Centre in ophthalmology in Hong Kong. With an eye to excellence in clinical outcomes and patient satisfaction, the CUHK Eye Centre strives to utilise its professional and research expertise to provide the best clinical services to the public. The CUHK Eye Centre aims to be the leading clinical, research and training centre in ophthalmology in the Asia-Pacific region.
