NTUC FairPrice Rice

NTUC FAIRPRICE has stayed true to its promise to keep the cost of living reasonable for its customers, and has established itself as a brand Singaporeans can rely upon to provide their daily grocery needs at affordable prices.

Over the years, FairPrice has become one of Singapore’s largest rice importers and retailers. It offers ten types of rice through the FairPrice Housebrand to suit its customers’ tastes and preferences, and at a price that is at least 10–15 per cent cheaper than other leading brands.

FairPrice Housebrand rice varieties include Hom Mali, Basmati, Calrose, Ponni, Red unpolished, Brown unpolished, Glutinous, Japonica, Jasmine and Koshihakari.

FairPrice was established in the 1970s in response to fears of food shortages and price increases. By going direct to the source, FairPrice is able to cut down on handling by middlemen and so is able to pass on the cost savings directly to consumers. Today, FairPrice gives its customers a myriad of products to choose from, sourced from more than 80 countries around the world, including organic fresh produce and healthier food choices, and all conveniently accessible.

And its promise to keep prices reasonable is one that FairPrice takes seriously, often absorbing the cost of fluctuating prices so that the customer doesn’t have to bear additional costs. This was the case in 2008, when FairPrice dropped the prices of its Housebrand rice amid rising food prices.
